The Story Behind the Nibble Frame

How one car ride turned into an idea we never expected

If you're a parent, you probably know that sometimes the best ideas don’t come from business meetings or product design sessions. They come from real life… usually during a moment when you're just trying to get through the day.

For us, the idea behind the Nibble Frame started during car rides with our daughter.

At the time, she was still nursing and very attached to me. Every time we put her in the car seat, she would cry the entire ride. And I mean the whole ride. No matter how short or long the drive was, she just wanted to be with mom.

We tried everything — toys, music, singing, talking to her from the front seat. Nothing really worked.

One day my husband had a simple idea.

“What if she could see a picture of you?”

The First Version Was Just a Photo

We didn’t want to give her a phone to look at. Screens weren’t something we wanted to introduce that early, and we definitely didn’t want her playing with a device in the car seat.

So we printed out a photo of me and handed it back to her.

And it actually helped.

She stopped crying almost immediately and just stared at the picture. It was like having a little piece of mom with her.

But there was one small problem.

She started chewing on the picture.

The Laminated Photo Experiment

Our next thought was simple — what if we laminated it?

So we laminated the photo and gave it back to her.

Now she could hold it, look at it, and chew on it without destroying it. And just like that, the car rides became much calmer.

She would sit in the back seat, holding the picture, looking at it, nibbling on it, and feeling comforted.

And that’s when the idea clicked.

The Moment the Nibble Frame Was Born

We realized something that felt really obvious in hindsight.

Babies don’t just want something to chew on when they’re teething — they want connection.

They want mom.
They want dad.
They want familiar faces.

What if there was something a baby could hold in their car seat, crib, or stroller that:

• Let them see someone they love
• Gave them something safe to chew on
• Kept them visually engaged
• And didn’t involve a screen

That simple laminated photo became the inspiration for what would eventually become the Nibble Frame.

Endless Possibilities

Once we started thinking about the idea, our minds started running with all the possibilities.

You could put so many things inside the frame:

• Pictures of mom and dad
• Grandparents or siblings
• Family photos
• Flashcards for learning
• Animals or shapes
• Drawings from older siblings

It became more than just a teething toy. It was something babies could look at, hold, chew, and feel connected to.

The frame design combines a soft teething surface with a space to hold a visual insert like a photo, illustration, or mirror for engagement and comfort.  

 

A Product Our Own Kids Still Love

The funny thing is, even though the Nibble Frame started when our daughter was a baby, our kids still love it.

Since then we've welcomed another baby girl into our family, and she loves the Nibble Frame too.

But what surprised us the most was our oldest son.

When his dad works late or travels for a few days, he sometimes sleeps with the Nibble Frame. He's well past the nibbling stage, but to him it’s comforting to have something that reminds him of family.

That was one of those moments that made us realize this little idea had become something much bigger than we expected.

From Our Family to Yours

The Nibble Frame didn’t start as a product idea. It started as a parenting moment — trying to comfort a baby who just wanted her mom.

If our little invention can help another baby feel calm in the backseat, help a parent get through a long car ride, or simply give a child something comforting to hold onto, then we’re grateful we followed that small idea.

Because sometimes the simplest solutions turn out to be the ones families love the most.
